3 Excellent Reasons to Floss Your Teeth on a Regular Basis

Dr. Baptiste • March 27, 2019

Just about everybody understands the importance of brushing their teeth twice a day. As such, brushing their teeth has become something of a daily ritual for them. However, many people neglect to floss on a regular basis - in no small part because they do not understand why it is so important.

There are plenty of excellent reasons to floss on a regular basis, such as:

It Helps to Prevent Gum Bleeding

Many people say they choose not to floss because it sometimes makes their gums bleed. However, that bleeding can actually be reduced by flossing on a regular basis. When you floss, you will be removing the bad bacteria from your gums and your body won't need to send blood cells to the area to fight against infection. As a result, you will soon begin to notice much less bleeding from your gums.

It Helps to Prevent Cavities

Just about everyone has gone to the dentist at some point and learned that they have a cavity - and just about everyone knows that it isn't a lot of fun. Luckily, however, flossing on a regular basis can help to reduce your chances of developing cavities. By reducing and removing bacterial build-up in those hard-to-reach areas of your mouth, you are giving your teeth the best possible chance to remain healthy and strong.

It Helps to Keep the Rest of Your Body Healthy

Though most people may not know it, major diseases such as stroke, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis have all been linked to gum disease. As such, by keeping your gums nice and healthy with a regular flossing routine, you will be able to reduce your risk of developing one of these nasty illnesses.

Given the obvious importance of flossing, you should certainly try to make it a part of your regular oral hygiene routine as soon as possible. Of course, if you have any questions about flossing technique, you can always speak to your dentist or dental hygienist.
